Manufactured in our workshop near Angers
Each raised bed is cut, folded and welded by hand in our workshop, near Angers.
We use Corten steel that is 2 or 3 mm thick depending on the size of the planter, to guarantee a robust and perfectly rigid structure.
Each planter is manufactured bespoke and entirely welded: you receive it as a single block, ready to be installed in your garden or on your terrace.
A 37 mm rim is created on the top. This dimension can be modified upon request.
Three possible configurations
Without base — for planting directly in open ground
This configuration allows you to install the raised bed on your natural soil, so that plantings can develop in open ground.
Depending on the dimensions of the planter, reinforcements can be welded in all four corners to maintain good rigidity of the planter.
With base + adjustable feet
The raised bed rests on small adjustable feet of approximately 2 cm, which allow you to raise it slightly off the ground whilst remaining very discreet.
The base is perforated to allow water drainage and promote good drainage.
With base + legs
For greater height, you can choose square Corten steel legs of different heights. (The height of the legs should be added to the height you will have chosen in the configurator.)
As with the feet version, the base is perforated to allow water drainage.
Corten steel and its patina
Corten steel: a natural patina that evolves over time
Corten steel is specially designed for outdoor use. Exposed to air and moisture, it gradually develops a surface patina that gives it its characteristic hue whilst permanently protecting the metal. Its lifespan is approximately 5 times longer than that of standard steel.
Each sheet evolves differently: the shades, veining and patina formation speed can vary depending on its environment. Each planter thus becomes unique.
Unless you choose the “already rusted” option, your raised bed will be delivered in its raw state (dark grey). Its patina will then form naturally once installed outdoors.
The Corten steel corrosion process spans 2 years
From 1 to 3 months: Your raised bed becomes covered with a yellow/orange surface patina. Be cautious with wooden and concrete patios: during this phase, rust stains may mark your floor. To avoid this, you can choose the “already rusted” option.
From 3 to 6 months: The patina becomes darker and harder.
From 6 months to 1 year: The colour becomes uniform and the patina becomes very solid.
There are no more stains.
From 1 to 2 years: Your raised bed patinates until it achieves its final colour, a more or less dark brown. Each Corten sheet is unique, and so is its colour.
How to fill your raised bed?
For a raised bed with a bottom, we recommend proceeding in three steps:
- Place a layer of 5 to 10 cm of drainage gravel at the bottom of the box to facilitate water evacuation.
- Cover the gravel with a permeable geotextile to prevent soil from mixing with the drainage layer.
- Then fill your raised bed with potting soil or topsoil, depending on the planned plantings.
Since the bottom is pierced, excess water can drain away naturally.
For a raised bed without a bottom, we recommend proceeding in three steps:
- Cut or remove the grass inside the bed to expose the soil.
- Lightly break up the soil over a few centimetres to facilitate rooting and drainage.
- Then fill your raised bed with a mixture of topsoil and potting soil suitable for the planned crops.
Since the bed is open to natural soil, roots can develop deeply and excess water drains directly into the earth.
