Each planter is cut, rolled and welded by hand in our workshop, near Angers.

We use Corten steel that is 2 or 3 mm thick depending on the dimensions of the planter, to guarantee a robust and perfectly rigid structure.

Each planter is manufactured bespoke and entirely welded: you receive it in one single piece, ready to be installed in your garden or on your terrace.

A 37 mm rim is created on the top of the planter. This dimension can be modified upon request.

No base — for planting directly in the ground

This configuration allows you to install the planter directly on your natural soil, so that plantings can develop in the ground.

Depending on the dimensions of the trough, reinforcements can be welded to maintain good rigidity of the trough.

With base + adjustable feet

The planter rests on small adjustable feet of approximately 2 cm, which allow it to be slightly raised from the ground whilst remaining very discreet.

The base is perforated to allow water to drain away and promote good drainage.

With base + 10 cm feet

For additional height, you can choose 10 cm square Corten steel feet. (The 10 cm should be added to the height you will have selected in the configurator.)

This configuration also allows sufficient space underneath the planter so that it can be moved using a pallet truck.

As with the wheeled base version, the bottom is pierced to allow water drainage.

Corten steel: a natural patina that evolves over time

Corten steel is specially designed for outdoor use. Exposed to air and moisture, it gradually develops a surface patina that gives it its characteristic colour whilst durably protecting the metal. Its lifespan is approximately 5 times longer than that of standard steel.

Each sheet evolves differently: the shades, the mottling and the speed of patina formation can vary depending on its environment. Each planter thus becomes unique.

Unless you choose the “already rusted” option, your planter will be delivered to you with its raw appearance (dark grey). Its patina will then form naturally once installed outdoors.

evolution of corten patina

The corrosion process of Corten steel extends over 2 years

1 to 3 months: Your planter develops a superficial yellow/orange patina. Be careful with wooden and concrete terraces: during this phase, rust streaks may stain your floor. To avoid this, you can choose the “already rusted” option.

3 to 6 months: The patina becomes darker and harder.

6 months to 1 year: The colour becomes uniform and the patina becomes very solid.
There are no more streaks.

1 to 2 years: Your planter develops its patina until it reaches its final colour, a more or less dark brown. Each Corten sheet is unique, and so is its colour.

For a planter with a bottom, we recommend proceeding in three steps:

  1. Place a layer of 5 to 10 cm of draining gravel at the bottom of the trough to facilitate water drainage.
  2. Cover the gravel with a permeable geotextile to prevent soil from mixing with the draining layer.
  3. Then fill the planter with potting soil or topsoil, depending on the plantings planned.

As the bottom is pierced, excess water will be able to drain naturally.
