Handmade in our workshop
At Nalunes, each Mikado foot is cut, adjusted and welded by hand in our workshop, near Angers. We have chosen demanding manufacturing: thick steel, careful welds and robust assemblies, for a base designed to last.
A design that hides genuine workshop craftsmanship
The Mikado appears simple: tubes that interweave. In reality, it is one of the most demanding feet to manufacture. Each tube is cut at the exact angle, positioned with precision then welded so that the whole sits perfectly level.
This care, almost invisible once the foot is finished, makes all the difference: your table remains stable, rigid and can support up to 300 kg, regardless of the version chosen.

A single unit, ready to install
The Mikado is entirely welded: you receive it as a single block, with no assembly required. No screws to tighten, no instructions: all that’s left is to install your top.
It is compatible with rectangular or oval tops, in wood, stone or glass.

Dimensions
Which length should you choose?
Choose the length of your Mikado foot based on the dimensions of your worktop.
| Worktop length | Foot length |
|---|---|
| Up to 190 cm | 130 cm |
| 195 to 220 cm | 150 cm |
| 225 to 250 cm | 180 cm |
| 255 to 290 cm | 200 cm |
| 295 to 340 cm | 220 cm |
Which width should you choose?
| Worktop width | Recommended foot width |
|---|---|
| 80 to 95 cm | 70 cm |
| Over 95 cm | 80 cm |
Which height should you choose?
A finished dining table (foot + worktop) should measure between 75 and 77 cm.
| Worktop thickness | Recommended foot height |
|---|---|
| 20 to 30 mm | 73 cm |
| 30 to 60 mm | 71 cm (standard) |
| 60 to 80 mm | 69 cm |
| Over 80 mm | 67 cm |
Which steel section should you choose?
The steel section mainly influences the style and visual presence of the base frame. It has no effect on the weight supported by the base frame.
| Worktop dimension | Recommended steel section |
|---|---|
| Up to 170 cm | 60 × 60 or 80 × 80 mm |
| 180 to 250 cm | 80 × 80 mm |
| Over 250 cm | 100 × 100 mm |
These are our recommendations for a balanced result, but nothing prevents you from choosing an 80 × 80 mm section with a worktop over 250 cm: you will simply get a more airy and lighter appearance than with a 100 × 100 mm tube.
Fixing your top
The Mikado base is equipped with 4 fixing plates, each drilled with 4 holes of 7 mm.
Fixing screws are provided: all you need to do is position your top and screw it onto the base.
We recommend gluing the top directly to the base using suitable silicone.
Another solution is to glue plywood under the top, then screw the base onto it.
The base is specially adapted to your top: the upper plates are replaced by solid surfaces, without drilling.
You can then install non-slip pads and simply place your glass top on the base.
Protection of your floor
The Mikado foot is equipped with height-adjustable plastic glides. They allow you to easily adjust the levelling of your table, even on slightly uneven ground.
They also create protection between the base and your floor, to preserve your tiles or parquet and make it easier to move the table without risk of scratches.
Finishes and colours
Without paint or varnish, steel retains its natural appearance, with shades ranging from dark grey to midnight blue. Marks, scratches or colour variations may be visible: they are an integral part of the authentic appearance of raw steel.
This finish retains the natural appearance of raw steel whilst providing it with protection. A transparent matt varnish is applied in order to prevent the appearance of corrosion and preserve the appearance of the base over time.
The base is covered with powder paint in the colour of your choice, then baked in an oven to create a coating that is uniform, slightly textured and highly resistant. This finish offers excellent durability over time and makes the base easier to maintain.
Would you like a particular colour? Select this option and tell us the required RAL reference when you place your order. Examples: RAL 7033, RAL 7021, RAL 2100…
